I assume you're using android? If so, yes, just install the new update without uninstall the current one, it will automatically update without losing your progress.

For example, take South Carolina and China. It’s 5:20AM in South Carolina (as of writing this comment), but in China, it would be 6:20PM instead, and is ahead of South Carolina too. (same case with my own location)

Just do what Karyn says, if you're on android, just install the new version later (0.4.0) without uninstalling the current version (0.3.9v2)
